We Are Moving To Seville

We couldn't have laid out our itinerary any better.  Saving Seville for last.

From the moment we entered this city, we fell in love.  Seville has a magic to it that we had only experienced once before...  in Bakersfield.

It began as we walked up to our hotel.

The Hotel Ateneo Sevilla.  You just ain't gonna believe this place!

And we hadn't even gotten to the room yet.

I can't remember the last time I slept under a chandelier.  Oh yeah, never!

Sonja liked the complimentary bottle of champagne.

I'm going to skip ahead to breakfast so you can see the spread.  I'll come back to our evening out in Sevilla, doing the tapas bar tour.

Just like they do it on the TV shows.   "10 hours earlier..."

One of the few organized tours we took was a Tapas Bar Tour with Devour Tours.  Have got to give these folks the thumbs up.  It was a 3 1/2 hour walking tour of some of the greatest tapas bars in Seville.  If you didn't know, tapas are little small plates that they serve to you in the bars.  You know how American bars will give you pretzels?  In Spain, you get some damn good food.

Our first stop was in the oldest bar in Spain.  Opened in 1670.  That is not a typo.  Ben Franklin wasn't even born yet when this place opened its doors.  And it has been in the same family ever since.

And that was only the first stop.  Next we headed to the second oldest bar in Spain.

The vats you see in the back have been there since the 1700's.  It's where they store the wine.  And because they only pour from the middle of the vats, the wine you drink today still has a little bit of the 1700's vintage in it.

Not really sure what that door was for.

Fish with cheese on some ancient bread and peppers that were rolled on the floor to pick up any droppings.  (just kidding. they rolled them outside in the dirt)

At the end of the tour, just when we thought we couldn't eat any more, David informs us that now we're going for a sit-down tapas meal.

And then we got to day two.  You need to buckle up, cuz this was one helluva day.  It began with the Catedral de Sevilla.  I don't have words for this.

St. John the Baptist

Roman columns

And also there is the tomb of a guy you might have heard of...  Christopher Columbus.

Leaving the Catedral, we took a lovely stroll through the park.  Enjoying Flaminco in the Park along the way.

Just when we thought the day could not get any better...  Plaza de Espana.

By this time, we are blubbering idiots.  Unable to speak our own names.  Only gutteral sounds coming out of our mouths, with an occasional "wow".

But the barber of Seville is not done with us yet.  What would a trip to Spain be without a tour of the oldest bull fighting stadium in Spain?

But as our day wound down, we were in for Seville's greatest surprise.  They sell beer at McDonalds!!!

If you've seen nothing else of our trip...  this will make you want to go to Spain.
