Here We Go Again

Last winter, at the height of the cold, rain and snow, thoughts drifted off to our previous excursions to warmer places.  Hawaii a couple of times, Vietnam, Hong Kong.  Not sure what it was that told me it was time to begin planning our next "excellent adventure".  Hmmmm....

Oh yeah, now I remember.  We were snowed in for 5 frick'n days!!!!

So, I sat down at my computer and started to search for warm weather golf destinations.  We had done Hawaii 3 years in a row, so that was out.  Mexico sounded attractive but the idea of being confined to a resort didn't appeal to me and getting out for brunch with the cartels would have given me indigestion.

And then I stumbled upon Portugal and the Algarve region.   "Holy Hole-In-One Batman!"  (Those of you not alive in the 60's won't get that reference).  They had January temps in the 70's.  Golf courses up the kazoo!  This was it.

So, the planning began.  We'll fly into Madrid, rent a car and drive to Portugal.  We'll get to see a bit of Spain and play a lot of golf.  Easy right?

Easy until I started looking into what we would see on the drive from Madrid.  Oh, we could stop here.  We could spend a little bit of time there.  A quicking walking tour in that location.   And before I knew it, there was no time for Portugal.  It was completely out of the picture.  I had filled 10 days without ever getting out of Spain.

And now, after a year of research and planning, I'm ok with not seeing Portugal (this time).  We're leaving in less than 48 hours for what promises to be one of the best trips we've ever taken.

We're going to fly into Barcelona.  It's one of those 52 hour flights with a stop over in Amsterdam.  Benadryl, here I come.  If I'm lucky, I'll sleep for 51 hours of the flight.  A couple of days in Barcelona and a 5 hour bullet train ride later, we'll be in Cordoba.  We'll spend a few days there, then rent a car and do a road trip through Andalusia.  There will be a slight diversion as we head over to Morocco and then we'll drive into Seville loaded up with souvenirs (and most likely a speeding ticket or two).  After a few days in the birthplace of Flamenco, we'll catch a short flight back to Barcelona and then head on home.

I hope you can stay with us as we chronicle our trip and share it with the people we care about the most in this world.
