The Rock

One of the smallest countries in the world,  Gibraltar is 90% rock, 10% city.

It has one airport and that is significant to Bill & Sonja's excellent adventure because you have to cross the live runway to get into the city.  They stop traffic whenever a plane is landing or taking off.

The Rock of Gibraltar is massive.

This is the point where we encountered our first scammers.  The tram that went to the top was down for annual maintenance.   And there were several guys with vans aggressively explaining to us and other tourists that their van service was the only way available to go up.

We had the same 6th sense going off that we did in Bangkok with a scammer taxi driver.   Once again we trusted our gut and asked a local passing by, if we could drive up.  With a chuckle,  she said yes.

With a look of "damn, we're smart", we took off up the rock.

We weren't able to get all the way to the top, but where we got to was beautiful.

I wanted to post this picture for the Polish side of our family.

I was all set to end this segment of the blog right here.  But we were a little hungry and we wanted to eat.  At the lighthouse, we got into a wonderful conversation with two elderly ladies from England.  And after hearing about how much they thought Trump was an imbecile, they recommended a restaurant in town.  So, me being the macho man that I am, decided to drive into town.

You have to remember, these streets were built in the 1700's for horses and walking.  They were never supposed to accommodate automobiles.  I was fine driving with only inches on either side of the car, dodging other cars and only rolling over a couple of pedestrians.  Sonja, on the hand, was a wreck.  One hand in a death grip on the door handle and the other trying to pull the upholstery that had been sucked up into her butt.

Never the less, she wouldn't let me stop and so we headed to our hotel in Algeciras.
